The invention concerns an ironing apparatus and method. The ironing apparatus comprises an iron (2), a steam generator (1) and a tube (105) connecting the generator to the iron. As the steam carries along condensates into the iron, the iron comprises means for recuperating (201, 202) condensates and a conduit (203) for evacuating steam, connected to the recuperating means. Preferably, the iron comprises means for ejecting (209, 214) condensates trapped in the recuperating means.
