The present invention defimes an ironing board cover assembly including a cover and a scorch resistant panel. The scorch resistant panel is secured to and flush with the cover and forms a pocket therebetween. A heat resistant panel is located in the pocket between the scorch resistant panel and the cover. The ironing board cover assembly further includes a bumper provided along the perimeter of the scorch resistant panel. The bumper has a height of at least 1/3 of an inch and partially surrounds the scorch resistant panel.
