Abstract A valve body has a large threaded inlet portion adapted to e screwed into an irrigation coupling, and also has a large inlet, a tapered valve seat leading from the inlet to a smaller outlet portion with a cupped end of the outlet portion to turbulate the water. A valve closure member has a tapered head and a stem slidable in the body, and a spring urges the head with an O-ring seal away from the valve seat. A flared cup on the stem limits movement of the valve closure member by the spring. The cupped end of the body has a tapered bore, and a washer fitting loosely on the stem permits sand to pass to the tapered bore. The cup has ribs to limit pivotal movement on the body.
