ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An irrigation system and method of positioning an irrigation system is disclosed. The method involves providing a plurality of lengths of porous pipe each having inlet and outlet ends with the porosity of the pipe lengths gradually and controllably increasing from the inlet ends to the outlet ends. The inlet ends of some of the pipe lengths are connected to a first header manifold, and the inlet ends of the remainder of the pipe lengths are connected to a second header manifold, and the first and second header manifolds are then connected to a source of water. In a preferred arrangement, the first and second header manifolds are positioned a substantial distance apart, with the porous pipe lengths connected to the first header mani- fold extending toward the second header manifold and with the porous pipe lengths connected to the second header manifold extending toward the first header manifold. With this irrigation arrangement, an equal amount of water may be provided throughout the irrigated area without the use of extensive pump and manifold systems which in large fields are prohibitively expensive.
