Embodiments of the invention relate to a supersonic inlet employing relaxed isentropic compression to improve net propulsive force by shaping the compression surface of the inlet. Relaxed isentropic compression shaping of the inlet compression surface functions to reduce cowl lip surface angles, thereby improving inlet drag characteristics and interference drag characteristics. Using supersonic inlets in accordance with the invention also demonstrated reductions in peak sonic boom overpressure while maintaining performance.

Des modes de réalisation de l'invention concernent une entrée d'air supersonique mettant en oevre une compression isentropique relâchée pour améliorer la force de propulsion nette par façonnage de la surface de compression de l'entrée d'air. Le façonnage de compression isentropique relâchée de la surface de compression de l'entrée d'air permet de réduire les angles de surface de bord d'attaque capot, ce qui améliore les caractéristiques de traînée d'entrée d'air et les caractéristiques de traînée d'interférence. L'utilisation d'entrées d'air supersoniques selon l'invention permet également de réduire la surpression de bang sonique maximum, tout en conservant les performances.
