A method of treating or preventing, in a human patient, dementia of Alzheimer type, or age-related loss of cognitive function, said method comprising administering to said patient an isolated isoflavonoid selected from the group consisting of genistein, daidzein, biochanin A, formononetin, O- desmethylangolensin, glycitin, and equol, in an amount sufficient to produce a transient isoflavonoid concentration in the bloodstream of said patient of at least 100 nanomoles/L.
L'invention concerne un procédé destiné à traiter ou à prévenir, chez un patient humain, la démence de type Alzheimer ou la perte de ses facultés cognitives due à l'âge, ce procédé comprenant l'administration audit patient d'un isoflavonoïde isolé choisi dans le groupe composé de la génistéine, de la daidzéine, de la biochanine A, de la formo-ononétine, de l'O-desméthyl-angolensine, de la glycitine, et de l'équol, cet isoflavonoïde étant administré en quantité suffisante pour produire une concentration transitoire d'isoflavonoïde d'au moins 100 nanomoles/l dans la circulation sanguine dudit patient.
