Abstract The present invention relates to novel isoindoles of the formula Image (I) , wherein A represents an alkylene group containing 2-8 carbon atoms; Z represents an oxygen atom or a group of the formula -NR6-; R1, R2, R3 and R4 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, alkoxy or trifluoromethyl group; R5 and R6 each represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; and R7 and R8 each represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, aryl or aralkyl group or R7 and R8 together represent a group of the formula -(CH2)n-, in which n stands for an interger of from 2-7, or -NR7R8 represents a S-membered or 6-membered saturated heterocyclic group - 2 - containing an oxygen atom or a further nitrogen atom which may be substituted with alkyl or hydroxyalkyl, and to pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, which compounds have anorectic properties and can be manufactured in a manner known per se.
