The present invention relates to DNA sequences encoding bTP-1, to isolation and identification thereof and to the construction of recombinant DNA expression vehicles, particularly complementary DNA (cDNA) containing such DNA sequences operably linked to expression-effecting promoters sequences and to the expression vehicles so con- structed. In another aspect, the present invention relates to cDNA for bTP-1 and the isolation thereof. In yet other aspects, the invention relates to essentially pure bovine trophoblast protein-1, to means and methods of providing this protein by recombinant DNA technology and of converting recombinant bTP-1 to novel entities, such as pharma- ceutical compositions, useful for the prophylactic of therapeutic treatment of other species of warm-blooded animals, including humans.
