The present invention relates to a crystalline carotenoid compound, such as .beta.-carotene, with a purity of at least 95 % and with substantially no solvent enclosed in the crystal lattice. The present invention further describes a process to prepare such a highly pure crystalline carotenoid compound from microbial biomass, without the use of a solvent extraction and/or an anti-solvent crystallization process.
La présente invention concerne un composé caroténoïde cristallin tel que le beta -carotène, ayant une pureté d'au moins 95 %, et ne contenant quasiment pas de solvants dans le réseau cristallin. La présente invention concerne également un procédé de fabrication d'un tel composé caroténoïde cristallin ultra pur à partir de biomasse microbienne, ce procédé ne faisant intervenir ni extraction de solvant, ni procédé de cristallisation anti-solvant.
