ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A heat-stable enterotoxin obtained from the Escherichia coli strain F11(P155) ATCC....... character- ized as the octadecapeptide H2N-Asn-Thr-Phe-Tyr-Cys-Cys- Glu-Leu-Cys-Cys-Asn-Pro-Pro-Cys-Ala-Ala-Gly-Tyr-COOH, and a process for preparing same in the substantially pure state. The substantially pure heat-stable enterotoxin is useful as an immunogenic agent in veterinary and in human medicine, and antiserum prepared therewith is useful as a reagent for determining the presence of said enterotoxin in biological fluids by immunochemical means.
