Disclosed is a process for isomerizing an endo form of a cycloolefin to an exo form of the cycloolefin of the formula: (see above formula) (wherein R1 to R18 are each hydrogen, halogen or hydrocarbon and a pair of some of them may form a ring, n is 0 or 1 and m is 0 or a positive integer, provided that m and n cannot be 0 simultaneously) in the presence of a solid acid catalyst; and a resulting isomer mixture of up to 80 mol % of the endo form and at least 20 mol % of the exo form of the cycloolefin. The cycloolefin isomer mixture is useful for the production of an ethylene-cycloolefin random copolymer which in turn is useful for the production of, for example, optical memory disks and fibers.
