ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pair of detented work locators are embedded in a plastic fixture pallet so the first such locator is in a predetermined position in said pallet, and so that said second locator is positioned in a predetermined location with respect to said first work locator. Each locator may be formed with a base plate sandwiched between a pair of circular ring members and so that there is formed through such members a centrally disposed circular opening. A locator pin is inserted through said opening and locked in place therein by cooperation of a detent ring which is press fit within said central opening proximate an upper portion of said locator pin. A lower ledge of the locator pin is disposed in a lower portion of said central opening and is spring biased so that detent notches formed in a lower surface of the detent ring seat on detent balls positioned between the detent ring and the base plate. A cross pin extends through the locator pin perpendicular to the axis of rotation thereof. A work base is formed with a pair of spaced openings with opposed notches in each so that when the cross pins of the two locators are aligned with the notches the base can be placed over protruding upper ends of the locator pins. Subsequent rotation of the cross pins, under action of the detent ring and balls, moves the cross pins into positions locking the base and work against the fixture pallet surface. One opening in the tray snugly fits about one of the locator pins to provide an accurate location of the work carrying tray on the fixture pallet. The other tray opening accommodates variations in part dimensions by being slightly elongated. Work positioners at a work station cooperate with the locators to accurately position the fixture pallet and work at the work station; said work positioners also functioning to rotate the work locators.
