Braces for loading and/or unloading knees, elbows and other joints. Such braces feature a stiffener (22) which may be substantially permanently configured in shape to cooperate with the brace in applying tension to locations on the limb proximal and distal to the joint being loaded and/or unloaded, which counteract forces applied by the stiffener to the joint. A bending tool (44) which may be accompanied by use of a goniometer may be employed for proper configuration of the stiffener using the wearer's limb geometry as a reference. Such braces are particularly effective for treating conditions such as compartmental osteoarthritis.

L'invention concerne une orthèse destinée à contraindre et/ou soulager les genoux, les coudes et autres articulations. Cette orthèse comporte une nervure raidisseuse (22) de forme sensiblement fixe pour coopérer avec l'orthèse dans l'application d'une tension en certains points du membre proximaux et distaux par rapport à l'articulation, que l'on soumet à une charge et/ou que l'on soulage, ladite tension opposant une réaction aux forces appliquées par la nervure raidisseuse à l'articulation. Il est possible d'utiliser un outil (44) de flexion, ainsi qu'un goniomètre, pour configurer correctement la nervure raidisseuse, la géométrie du membre de l'utilisateur étant utilisée comme référence. Les orthèses de l'invention sont particulièrement efficaces pour le traitement des états tels que l'ostéoarthrite compartimentale.
