A B S T R A C T A joint for structural elements, specifically hollow pipes, is disclosed. A rectangular block has openings in its faces to receive projections secured to opened male elements. The latter extend inside pipe end portions and are in turn sourrounded by radially expandable female elements. The latter have gripping means to grip the inner surface of the pipes as they expand. The blocks rest on the pipe ends and consist each of two halves securable by a bolt and nut. When the nut is screwed onto the bolt the male member is drawn forwardly causing the female member to expand in reaction. Up to five faces of the block may be used and provision is made for a pivotal connection to a pipe.
