ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a joint for the ends of a pair of electric cables having extruded insulation in which the ends of the cable con- ductors are mechanically joined and the so joined ends are surrounded by a monolithic sleeve which tightly engages the ends of the insulations of the cables and which has embedded therein an electric field director surrounding the joined conductor ends, a metal member within the field director which mechanically interconnects the insulations of the cables so as to prevent or reduce the shrinkage of the insulations and movement thereof with respect to the conductors. Preferably, the metal member is a unitary member which acts as an adaptor and the inter- connecting means and comprises a split metal sleeve, entirely within and contacting the field director, which has internal ribs which fit into grooves in the insulations and which has collars at opposite sides of the joined conductor ends engaging the conductors and the ends of the insulations. If the cables have outer semi-conductive layers, the monolithic sleeve has an outer semi-conductive layer which electrically interconnects the outer semi-conductive layers of the cables.
