Putting ground meat patties on a hot grill causes burned spots when they touch the overheated grill. These burned meats and fats are carcinogenic and also hard to remove. Another way to barbecue ground meat - instead of meat patties - is by using skewers thus eliminating the need of a grill. The meat is not on a barbecue rack but is held by skewers. This method prevents burned spots. The skewer inside the meat cannot get overheated and is cooled down by the meat juices. To put the ground meat onto the skewers is not easy. A two-part mould (the new invention) is therefore used with specific spaces, to accommodate both skewers and meat, in preparation for horizontal barbecue cooking. The ground meat usually loosens from the skewers at both ends and falls into the barbecue. To avoid the loosening of the meat from the skewers, the mould is designed in such a way that both ends of the skewered meat are tapered. The tapered parts of the meat cook faster and stick to the skewer, thereby avoiding the loosening of the meat from the skewer. To avoid the meat sticking to the mould, a thin celluloid-like film is used to cover the inside of the mould during the moulding process. After the mould is opened, the skewered meat can easily be taken out of the mould, and the cover film can then be: a. removed from the meat for immediate barbecuing or b. left on, if storage is necessary, to protect against dust, insects and also from drying out.
