ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A key telephone apparatus having a key service unit and a key telephone set. A microprocessor of the key telephone set generates a key telephone set identifying signal. In response to the identifying signal, a main control section of the key service unit recognizes the key telephone set to conduct a function software setting work in accordance with the key telephone set. The apparatus also includes a function device connected to the key telephone set for extending its function. The function device generates a function identifying signal. In response to the function identifying signal, the main control section recognizes the function device to conduct a function software setting work in accordance with the function device.
