The Khadem Separation Process (KSP) is invented to effectively separate the remaining oil from the water coming from Free-Water-Knock-Out (FWKO) vessel which is used to separate oil from water and sand contained in the fluid produced from oil wells. The water produced from FWKO vessel is fed into KSP. The water then enters a de-gassing tank for removal of solution gas. After gas removal, the fluid enters a separator tank where most of the oil is separated and is gathered on top of the water. The separated oil is collected, thereafter, in an oil tank located in the centre of the separator tank. At the same time, the sand contained in the water is released and is also collected at the bottom of the separator tank. The water containing some fine solids and some remaining oils will then enter a medium sized tank. The water is then passed from this tank, through one or more reactor cells, in which gas is introduced to the oily water to create bubbles after discharging the water into both a smaller clean water tank and also the large separator tank. The discharge of the water into these tanks creates a vortex effect. The bubbles accelerate the separation of the oil from water and thereby increase the effectiveness of the separation. The main advantages of this process compared to the conventional skimmer tank are: 1. Accelerating the oil/water separation; 2. Smaller facility; 3. Less residency time is needed for separation of oil from water; 4. The water discharged from the facility is cleaner; 5. Avoiding shut down of the treatment plant, for removal of the produced sand; 6. Cost saving for removal of the produced sand (Point 4); and 7. More oil is removed from both water and produced sand.
