Disclosed are peptides (blocking polypeptides) that inhibit kinase Eg2 activity, thereby inhibiting activation of the protein known as CPEB. DNAs encoding the CPEB-polypeptide, vectors, and cells containing the DNA, and CPEB- like specific antibodies are also disclosed.
