ABSTRACT A kinetic-energy projectile or penetrator has a large length/diameter ratio and high density. A forward pre-penetrator with a nose is connected at the rear to the main penetrator, and at least the pre-penetrator is designed as a stack of sectional cores of predetermined sizes, each having on the side facing the nose at least one sharp cutting edge, according to length and/or material of the sectional cores. The projectile has at least in the respective connecting areas predetermined breaking points guaranteeing centering and/or fixing. The projectile also has means allowing exchange, or covering, as well as a purposeful break or separation of the sectional cores at a prespecified breaking strength. The sectional cores have a prespecified structure over their length and/or their cross-section.
