A knee brace includes upper and lower frames attached to the thigh and calf of a leg. Hinge units are secured to the frames in alignment with the sides of the knee. Each hinge unit includes a first hinge member having a cam opening with a first cam surface and a second cam surface extending from a common connection end outwardly to outer ends. A second hinge member includes spaced followers spaced in accordance with the length of the cams. The hinge members abutt with the followers within the cam opening in alignment with a common connection end and one of the outer ends. As the knee bends, the hinge members rotate relative to each other about the one follower with the outer moving on the cam surface to the outer end thereof. In a further knee bend, the hinge members rotate about the second follower with the first follower moving along its cam surface to the common connection. The hinge members do not include any linear movement.
