ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A knife for cataract surgery comprises a thin rigid hollow shaft having manual manipulating means such as a handle at one end and a perpendicularly extending knife pivotally mounted closely adjacent the opposite end thereof. The knife blade is configured in an offset manner whereby the blade cutting edge is spaced from and directed toward the blade pivot axis, thereby providing a castering action of the blade in response to movement of the shaft tip. Fluids may be delivered to or removed from the cutting region through the hollow shaft.
