A process is disclosed for knitting a knitted fabric, in particular a shaped fabric, on a flat knitting machine. The edges (A, B) are formed on at least one side of the knitted fabric by a constantly increasing number of deactivated needles then by a constant decreasing number of deactivated needles per stitches course and the edges (A, B) are interconnected during the knitting process. In order to obtain a very stable and uniform interconnection between the edges over the whole interconnecting area, a float stitch is formed on at least one of the deactivated and/or activated needles of an edge (A, B) and the float stitch is knitted when the edges (A, B) are interconnected.

Selon un procédé de réalisation d'un tissu tricoté, notamment d'un tissu tricoté façonné sur un métier à tricoter rectiligne, les bords (A, B) sont formés sur au moins un côté du tissu tricoté par un nombre toujours croissant d'aiguilles désactivées puis par un nombre toujours décroissant d'aiguilles désactivées par rangée de mailles et les bords (A, B) sont interconnectés pendant le tricotage. Afin d'obtenir une liaison très stable, uniforme et exempte de trous sur toute la zone de liaison, une maille flottée est formée sur au moins une des aiguilles désactivées et/ou activées d'un bord (A, B) et cette maille est tricotée lorsque les bords (A, B) sont interconnectés.
