Abstract: A label for use in a high frequency anti-theft surveillance system. Permanently magnetized members are disposed adjacent a ferromagnetic nonlinear element for biasing the hysteresis loop of the nonlinear element near the knee of the magnetization curve. The nonlinear element includes low permeability sections and a high permeability section. The high permeability section of the nonlinear element is disposed adjacent a radiating dipole for radiating the summation frequency of a pair of frequencies impinging on the nonlinear element. A memory magnet with a changeable magnetism is disposed adjacent the high reluctance section of the nonlinear element. The magnetism of the memory magnet can be changed to provide either an active or inactive status of the label.
