ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a labelling machine for bottles (1) to which one or more labels are to be applied, aligned according to a specific marking (29) on the bottles (1). Prior to application of the first label the bottle (1) locked between a rotor (13) and a rotor head is scanned with reference to the marking (29) and rotated to a desired orientation by means of an electric motor (27). The rotational movement of the motor (27) is introduced through one input of a differential gearing (18, 21, 23), whereas the rotational movement needed according to a fixed program prescribed for the labelling process is introduced through the other input of the differential gearing (18, 21, 23). In this manner it is possible to bring the bottle to the required rota- tional position without releasing and regripping them between the rotor (13) and the rotor head.
