ABSTRACT A labelling station for objects such as bottles is disclosed, having at least one withdrawal element that can be either rotated or swung, with the pickup surface of which a label can be removed from a stack of labels and applied to the object that is to be labelled. The stack of labels is held by means of restraining elements that act on the edges of the stack and the restraining elements or the additional restraining elements can be controlled in such a way that the restraining force that they exert upon the labels is greater than the withdrawal force of the withdrawal elements and/or, in the case of a movable magazine that contains the stack of labels, is greater than the effective inertial force of the stack of labels that acts on the restraining elements when the magazine is moved back. Preferably, a control device is pro- vided for controlling the restraining elements, this having a series of sensors that monitor the objects to be labelled and then moves the restraining elements only if the sensors determine the lack of an object in the series of objects.
