An antioxidant composition obtained from the supercritical fluid carbon dioxide extraction of a Labiatae family herb has at least 30% by weight carnosic acid and less than 5 ml water distillable essential oil per 100 grams. The composition is substantially free of organic solvent and is soluble in food-grade oils and grain alcohol. The composition provides an antioxidant activity comparable to that of BHA and BBT.
