An interface point network (IPN) and a method for communication with a laboratory information system using an IPN, wherein the IPN includes at least one host computer in communication with at least one laboratory instrument, the laboratory information system and an interface point server in communication with the host computer and the laboratory information system, the interface point server being configured to function as a communication interface between the host computer and the laboratory information system in a manner responsive to a predetermined communication protocol. Use of bar code and RFID labels for tracking samples and in maintaining sample data is described.
La présente invention concerne un réseau de points de service ou "IPN" (Interface Point Network) et un procédé de communication avec un système d'information de laboratoire au moyen d'un IPN. En l'occurrence, l'IPN comporte au moins un ordinateur hôte en communication avec un instrument de laboratoire, le système d'information de laboratoire et un serveur de points de service en communication avec l'ordinateur hôte et le système d'information de laboratoire, le serveur de points de service étant configuré pour fonctionner comme une interface de communication entre l'ordinateur hôte et le système d'information de laboratoire de façon à réagir à un protocole de communication défini. L'invention concerne également l'utilisation d'étiquettes à code barre ou à identificateur radiofréquence pour le suivi des échantillons et la conservation des données d'échantillons.
