A process for the production of lactic acid and for the separation and/or recovery of lactic acid from a lactate feed solution. A lactate feed solution (14) preferably obtained from a fermentation broth (10) is combined with an extractant and extracted (18) from the resulting organic phase (21). Recovered carbonate or bicarbonate (29) from the aqueous phase (20) is preferably recycled to the fermentor (10) and regenerated extractant (17) is preferably recycled (24) for use in the extraction.

L'invention concerne un procédé de production d'acide lactique, et de séparation et/ou récupération d'acide lactique dans une solution de charge au lactate. On combine une solution de charge au lactate (14) obtenue, de préférence, à partir d'un bouillon de fermentation (10), avec un agent d'extraction, avant de l'extraire (18) de la phase organique résultante (21). Le carbonate ou le bicarbonate (29) récupéré dans la phase aqueuse (20) est de préférence recyclé vers le fermenteur (10), l'agent d'extraction régénéré (17) étant, de préférence, recyclé (24) pour être utilisé dans l'extraction.
