A ladder supporting device comprises a frame, mounts to support the frame on an upright supporting surface, and a pair of lateral guide members arranged to receive the width of the ladder therebetween. In a preferred embodiment, the device includes an inclination guide arranged to visually indicate a recommended inclination of the ladder relative to the upright supporting surface. Also in the preferred embodiment, the frame comprises a plate member spanning a width of the ladder and the mounts each comprise a post projecting generally perpendicularly from the plate member such that the plate is arranged to be supported spaced outwardly from supporting surface.
