Laminated hip and ridge asphalt shingle (10) having a first, a second and a third layer (21), (50) and (20) laminated together by a lamination adhesive (42). The first layer (21) is of two L-shaped configurations, each having a horizontal head portion (30) and a vertical butt portion (25). The horizontal head portions are superimposed on each other, while the vertical butt portions are placed adjacent to each other and form a gap (22) which allows bending of the first layer (21) thereby preventing stress and breaking. The second layer (50) overlaps the first layer (21). The third layer (20) only overlaps the head portion of the head portion of the second layer (50). The top surface of the shingle is coated with mineral granules, while portions of the undersurface of the shingle are coated with a self-seal adhesive to secure the shingle to the hip or ridge of a roof. Disclosed also is a process for installing the hip and ridge shingle units which includes: bending a first unit along a central flood line, pressing and adhering it to both sides of the intersecting plane of a roof; nailing the unit to the roof deck on both sides of the hip or ridge; bending a second unit (50) along a central fold line, pressing and adhering it to both sides of the intersecting plane and to the first unit (21) so that the butt portion of the second unit (50) overlaps the head portion of the first unit (21); nailing the second unit (50) to the roof deck on both sides of the hip or ridge; and similarly securing the necessary additional units to the intersecting planes of the roof to complete the installation.
L'invention porte sur un bardeau d'asphalte d'arêtier et de faîtage laminés (10) doté d'une première, deuxième et troisième couche (21), (50) et (20) laminées ensemble au moyen d'un adhésif de laminage (42). La première couche (21) est faite de deux configurations en forme de L, chacune ayant une partie de tête horizontale (30) et une partie de fond verticale (25). Les parties de tête horizontale sont superposées l'une sur l'autre alors que les parties de fond verticales sont placées l'une contre l'autre et forment un vide (22) qui permet d'incliner la première couche (21), empêchant ainsi la contrainte et la rupture. La deuxième couche (50) recouvre la première couche (21). La troisième couche (20) recouvre seulement la partie de tête de la deuxième couche (50). La surface supérieure du bardeau est revêtue de granulés minéraux, alors que les parties du revêtement inférieur du bardeau sont revêtues d'un adhésif autocollant afin de fixer le bardeau à l'arêtier ou au faîtage d'un toit. L'invention porte aussi sur un procédé d'installation d'unités de bardeau d'arêtier et de faîtage consistant : à courber une première unité le long d'une ligne d'inondation centrale, à la comprimer et à l'adhérer aux deux côtés du plan d'intersection d'un toit ; à clouer l'unité au toit-terrase sur les deux côtés de l'arêtier ou du faîtage ; à courber une deuxième unité (50) le long d'une ligne d'inondation centrale, à la comprimer et à l'adhérer aux deux côtés du plan d'intersection et à la première unité (21) ; à clouer la deuxième unité (50) au toit-terrasse sur les deux côtés de l'arêtier ou du faîtage ; et à fixer de la même manière les unités supplémentaires nécessaires aux plans d'intersection du toit afin de finir l'installation.
