A heatable laminated insulated safety glass is disclosed lining improved properties due to a unique spacer arrangement separating the panes of the safety glass. One of the panes includes an electrical resistance heating element. The spacer arrangement has two spaced hollow metal sections each of which has sidewalls parallel to the panes. The space between the hollow metal sections is filled with a plastic which adheres well to the sidewalls of the hollow metal sections. The plastic and hollow metal sections form a spacer which provides excellent electrical insulation and low thermal conductivity characteristics. The plastic material due to it strong adhesion to the hollow metal sections creates a spacer that has the required torsional rigidity in addition to the other characteristics.
