A method for supplying strip material for use in manufacturing a feminine hygiene product includes providing a first strip of a moisture acquisition layer which is prone to damage by stretching and/or by compression and by providing a second strip of a moisture absorption material and arranging the first and second strips in overlying relationship. The strips are attached along their edges by ultrasonic welding which is effected simultaneously with slitting of the strips from overlying webs of the materials so that the stronger moisture absorbent layer carries and protects the acquisition layer while the strips are wound together in a traverse wound package of the strip. After packaging, the laminated strips are withdrawn from the package for subsequent use in formation of the end product.
