ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An envelope comprises a bowl-shaped component with a screw base and a bulb of a translucent material. A fluorescent tube with a number of bends and a reactance ballast are encased in the envelope. This fluorescent tube and the reactance ballast are fixed to a supporting plate. Part of the fluorescent tube protrudes through the support- ing plate toward the side of the bowl-shaped component. Plural openings are formed in the bowl-shaped component adjacent the protruding part of the fluorescent tube, and plural openings are formed in the supporting plate adja- cent the reactance ballast fixed to the supporting plate, so as to dissipate heat generated and in particular to keep cool the protruding part of the tube which may be a bend in the tube, the end of the tube, or an exhaust tube projecting from one end of the tube.
