ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A lance driving mechanism for a shuttleless loom includes an arm, a sley coupled to the upper end of the arm, a shaft mounted on the arm, and a toothed sector pivotably mounted on the shaft. A toothed wheel for driving a weft insertion gripper-holder band is in turn driven by a series of gears and the toothed sector. One end of a connection rod is adjustably connected to the toothed sector while the other end is rotatably connected to a plate rotatable about a first axis. The plate is rotatable relative to the rod about a second axis offset from but parallel to the first axis. The plate rotates about the first axis twice during each stroke of the sley. The toothed sector is mounted in an eccentric manner relative the shaft and this connection enables a height adjustment between the toothed sector and the pinion gear it engages. The series of gears and the toothed wheel are rotatably mounted at the top of the arm.
