Lancing devices for use with a lancet are provided. The lancing device includes at least one of a lockable sleeve, means for preventing the lancet member from being operably engaged when the lancing device is cocked; a user-activated assembly operative to adjust an effective size of a piercing aperture; a slidable carnage and/or a lancet locking member.
