31 IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO LANDING NIPPLES ABSTRACT A safety valve landing nipple (10) selectively provides communication between a surface control line (12) and the internal bore (21) of said landing nipple by use of a rotary member (34). A rotary shifting tool (24) is used to rotate the rotary member so that a cutting means (29) shears the end of a shearable plug (13) in the wall of the landing nipple, so as to provide communication between the surface control line and the internal bore of the landing nipple. The disclosure includes a method of providing communication within a landing nipple (10) between a surface control line (12) and an internal bore (21) of the landing nipple by use of a rotary shifting tool (24), and a rotary shifting tool having a rotatable outer mandrel means (38), an inner mandrel means (32), a travel means (35) and a diametrically retractable means (30).
