A gas operated lantern includes a muffler assembly which promotes improved mixing of air and fuel, allowing for quieter operation. This may be particularly beneficial in gas operated lanterns having relatively short fuel delivery systems, where fuel and air may otherwise not be properly mixed before burning. The muffler assembly may include a flat disk having a plurality of openings disposed in a holder. As air and fuel flow through the disk, turbulence is created, mixing the air and fuel. The holder may be a venturi body and may include air holes for allowing air into the system.
