Chromatographic beads with pores large enough to serve as through-channels for fast diffusion and a substantial absence of pores of smaller diameters that would cause band broadening due to slow diffusive transport, are formed by suspension polymerization of an aqueous solution of a monomer mixture that includes a total monomer (combination of polymer backbone monomer and crosslinking agent) concentration of 2 % to 50 % by weight relative to the aqueous solution and a crosslinking agent in an amount such that the mole ratio of crosslinking agent to total monomer is from about 0.1 to about 0.7. The suspension polymerization process involves forming a suspension of aqueous droplets of the monomer mixture in an organic phase.

L'invention concerne des lits chromatographiques dotés de pores assez grands pour servir de passage permettant une diffusion rapide, et ne comptant quasi aucun pore de diamètre moins important qui entraînerait un élargissement de bande à cause d'un processus lent de diffusion. Les lits sont formés par polymérisation en suspension d'une solution aqueuse d'un mélange monomère qui renferme une concentration totale de monomères (combinaison de monomère à squelette polymère et d'agent de réticulation) de 2 à 50 % en poids par rapport à la solution aqueuse et une quantité donnée d'un agent de réticulation afin que le rapport molaire agent de réticulation/monomères soit compris entre 0,1 et 0,7 environ. Le procédé de polymérisation en suspension consiste à former une suspension de goutelettes aqueuses du mélange monomère dans une phase organique.
