ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A system for enhancing effective isotope separation in a technique utilizing an accelerated and expanding flow of a gaseous fixture of isotopes and a carrier gas which is divided into different output conduits containing isotopically enriched and depleted fractions. The enhancement is achieved by increas- ing the temperature of one isotopic component in the mixture through vibrational excitation of the isotope resulting in vibrational-translational energy transfer collisions. The resulting selective temperature increase improves the separation factor. A preferred separation system comprises a nozzle-type separation system having an accelerating channel and a source of laser radiation for applying to the channel radiation tuned to induce vibrational excitation of one isotope type.
