ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A laser beam printer includes a rotatable polygon mirror, a beam generator for generating a first beam which irradiates one of reflecting surfaces of the polygon mirror and a second beam which irradiates another reflecting surface of the polygon mirror, a photoelectric conversion device for detecting light from an original to convert an image on the original into an image signal when the first beam illuminates to scan the original by the rotation of the polygon mirror, a beam controller for keeping a quantity of light of the first beam constant and modulating the second beam corresponding to the image signal, and a photosensitive member into which the image is written by the scanning of the second beam along with the rotation of the polygon mirror.
