The present invention provides a method of making a laser imaged printing plate. First, a solid, uncured printing plate is modified with both a UV absorber and an IR absorber. This is most conveniently done by constructing a multilayer slip film (12) comprising at least two layers wherein at least one layer (14) comprises a strong UV absorber, and wherein at least one other layer (16) comprises an IR absorber having high absorptivity. The multilayer slip film (12) is already adapted for use with a printing plate and is applied in the usual fashion to the surface of the uncured printing plate. The printing plate with the multilayer slip film (12) is ablated from the photopolymer (18) using an IR laser operating at a selected wavelength to create an in situ negative. The resulting negative can be subjected to typical UV flood exposure and development.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de réalisation d'un cliché d'impression impressionné au laser. Pour commencer, on prend un cliché vierge non fixé et on le modifie au moyen d'un absorbeur d'ultraviolets et d'un absorbeur d'infrarouges. A cet effet, on préfère construire un feuillet de protection multicouche (12) comprenant au moins deux couches dont l'une (14) comprend un puissant absorbeur d'ultraviolets, l'autre (16) comprenant un absorbeur d'infrarouges à absorptivité élevée. Le feuillet de protection multicouche (12), qui est déjà conçu pour s'utiliser sur un cliché d'impression, s'applique selon les modalités habituelles sur la surface du cliché avant fixation. L'ablation du copolymère (18) du cliché revêtu du feuillet de protection multicouche (12) se fait au moyen d'un laser infrarouge fonctionnant à une longueur d'ondes choisie pour créer un négatif in-situ. Le négatif obtenu peut alors subir l'insolation aux ultraviolets et le développement.
