Disclosed is a polymer powder for coating a metallic substrate which comprises a laser light-active compound and a thermoplastic polymer base. A coating film or layer formed on a surface of the metallic substrate can be inscribed by means of laser light to provide information. The polymer powder may be coated on the metallic substrate by a simple and quick method, e.g., a fluidized-bed sintering method.
