The present invention provides a method for scanning material with a laser beam including directing a laser beam (20) through a scanning means, wherein said scanning means includes a first lens (11) and a second lens (12) separated by a distance (16) approximately equal to the focal length of the lenses. The method includes controlling the beam (20) by moving at least one of the lenses in a plane perpendicular to the beam to scan the material. The invention also provides a scanning apparatus for scanning material with a laser beam including laser means for producing a beam of ultraviolet or infra- red light, scanning means for scanning the laser source in a predetermined pattern onto an area of the material, and controlling means for controlling the scanning means, wherein the scanning means includes two lenses, separated by approximately the focal length of one of the lenses, with at least one of the lenses movable perpendicular to the beam to scan the beam.

L'invention concerne un procédé de balayage de matière à l'aide d'un faisceau laser, qui consiste à diriger un faisceau laser (20) à travers un moyen de balayage, lequel comprend des première (11) et deuxième lentilles (12) séparées pas une distance (16) approximativement égale à la longueur focale des lentilles. Ledit procédé consiste à commander le faisceau (20) par déplacement d'au moins une des lentilles dans un plan perpendiculaire au faisceau, de sorte que le balayage de ladite matière soit assuré. L'invention concerne également un appareil de balayage pour balayer la matière à l'aide d'un faisceau laser, qui comprend un moyen à laser pour la production d'un faisceau de lumière ultraviolette ou infrarouge, un moyen de balayage pour déplacer en balayage la source laser selon un motif prédéterminé sur une zone de la matière, et un moyen de commande pour commander le moyen de balayage. Ledit moyen de balayage comprend deux lentilles séparées par approximativement la longueur focale d'une des lentilles, au moins l'une d'entre elles étant mobile perpendiculairement au faisceau de sorte que le faisceau soit déplacé en balayage.
