A method of forming a weld between workpieces (1, 2) over a joint region (3). The method comprises: exposing the joint region (3) to incident radiation (4) having a wavelength outside the visible range so as to cause melting of the surface of one or both workpieces at the joint region, and allowing the melted material to cool thereby welding the workpieces together. A radiation absorbing material is provided at the joint region (3) in one of the workpieces (1,2) or between the workpieces which has an absorption band matched to the wavelength of the incident radiation so as to absorb the incident radiation and generate heat for the melting process. The absorption band lies outside the visible range so that the material does not affect the appearance of the joint region (3) or the workpieces (1, 2) in visible light.
L'invention concerne un procédé de formage d'une soudure entre des pièces (1, 2) au-dessus d'une zone (3) d'assemblage. Le procédé consiste : à exposer la zone (3) d'assemblage à un rayonnement (4) incident possédant une longueur d'onde hors du visible de manière à provoquer la fusion de la surface de l'une des pièces ou des deux dans la zone d'assemblage ; puis à laisser la matière fondue refroidir, ce qui entraîne le soudage des deux pièces l'une à l'autre. Une matière d'absorption de rayonnement se trouve dans la zone (3) d'assemblage dans l'une des pièces (1, 2) ou entre les pièces, cette matière possédant une bande d'absorption correspondant à la longueur d'onde du rayonnement incident, de manière à absorber le rayonnement incident et à générer de la chaleur pour le processus de soudage. La bande d'absorption se trouve hors du visible de sorte que la matière ne modifie pas l'aspect de la zone (3) d'assemblage ou des pièces (1, 2) dans la lumière visible.
