A method of welding metal components together including moving a laser beam (20) in a first direction (A) along an interface (22) between a pair of metal components (24, 26) such that in the vicinity of the focused beam (20), metal from each component is vaporized to produce a keyhole (28) in a pool of molten metal (30). The laser beam (20) is oscillated in a direction (B) different from (e.g. transverse to) the first direction such that the keyhole (28) oscillates through the pool of molten metal (30) and molten metal fills into the keyhole (28) as the position of the keyhole (28) changes.

Procédé de soudage de composants métalliques consistant à déplacer un faisceau laser (20) dans une première direction (A) le long d'une interface (22) entre une paire de composants métalliques (24, 26) de sorte que, à proximité du faisceau focalisé (20), le métal de chaque composant soit vaporisé pour former un trou de serrure (28) dans une bain de métal fondu (30). On fait osciller le faisceau laser (20) dans une direction (B) différente de la première (par ex. transversale) de sorte que le trou de serrure (28) oscille dans le bain de métal fondu (30) et que le métal fondu remplisse le trou de serrure (28) lors du changement de position dudit trou de serrure (28).
