A latch and lock mechanism for a door having a latch bolt mounted for movement between and extended latching position and a retracted unlatching position. A handle has a part engagable with a part on the latch bolt to move the latch bolt to the retracted position when the handle is moved to an operative position and to permit the latch bolt to be moved by a spring to its extended latching position upon movement of the handle to an inoperative position. A cam is moveable between a locking position and a release position. In the locking position, the cam engages the handle to lock the handle against movement to its operative position. In the release position of the cam, the cam release the handle to permit the handle to be moved its operative position.
