ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This latch is used more specifically in association with the pulling rope of a roller blind, wherein the rope is pulled down to roll the blind upwardly, and the blind unwinds downwardly under gravity when the rope is released. The latch is of the type comprising a U-shape bracket and an arm pivoted between the flanges of the bracket and having a latching heel gripping the rope against the backing surface provided by the bracket under the action of a spring. The latching heal automatically blocks the rope against upward movement and releases the rope when the letter is pulled down. The latch, in addition to the above-mentioned already known latching heel to block the rope in any given position, has a braking heel arranged to engage more or less the pulling rope and brake the same when the latching heel is in rope-releasing position. This enables speed control of the downward movement of the blind.
