LATCH GUARD FOR NARROW STILE DOORS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A latch guard for protecting a door latch installed in a door comprises a cover plate with a lock access hole and two mounting holes located generally above and below the lock access hole. When installed, the cover plate extends over the space between the door and an adjacent door frame in the area of the latch to protect the latch. The cover plate is mounted to the door by a first mounting bolt that extends through the cover plate and completely through the door, and by a second mounting bolt that also extends through the cover plate having a retaining nut and a retaining sleeve mounted thereon. A special cut-out in the retaining sleeve is designed to engage the lower edge of a hole in a front wall of the door. The cover plate also may include an anti-spread hole located generally to the side of the lock access hole through which a third bolt is mounted to the cover plate. When the door is closed, the third bolt extends into a hole in the adjacent door frame to prevent spreading of the door from the frame.
