A latent heat storage unit (1) having a storage container (2) that is filled with a latent storage medium (3) in particular a salt hydrate is provided. To heat or cool a secondary medium (4), a thermally conducting heat exchanger (5) is connected to the storage medium (3). The heat exchanger (5) has a number of heat conducting walls (6) separated from one another by intermediate spaces and that are in thermal contact with the secondary medium (4). On least one of the outside of the heat exchanger (5) that is in contact with the latent storage medium (3) and the inside of the storage container (2) that is in contact with the latent storage medium, there are at least one of sharp edges and peaks that promote the crystallization of the storage medium (3) and prevent a sub-cooling of the storage medium (3).
